CARDET, the Family and Childcare Centre (Greece), Defence for Children International (Italy), and Centro de Estudos para a Intervenção Social (Portugal) launched in September 2012, the project “IMPACT- Improving and Monitoring Protection systems Against Child Trafficking and exploitation”. The project has been awarded by the European Commission Directorate-General for Home Affairs and its duration is 18 months.
The IMPACT project aims at improving and enhancing child protection and child welfare policies’ impact in better preventing and protecting particularly vulnerable categories of children from trafficking and exploitation.
In the context of the Mediterranean Migration Network (MMN), CARDET successfully organized an International Conference on “Migration Policies and Practices in the EU and the Mediterranean Region”. The International Conference took place on Tuesday, June 19, at the University of Nicosia. The objectives of the conference were: the exchange of knowledge and experiences among European and Mediterranean stakeholders working in the field of migration and integration; the communication of the MMN’s action plan and vision; and the initiation of a public dialogue on migration policies, in conjunction with the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the EU.
Το Μεσογειακό Δίκτυο Μετανάστευσης και ο συντονιστικός του φορέας, το ερευνητικό κέντρο CARDET, διοργάνωσαν στις 6 Ιουνίου 2012, στο Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας, το 2ο εκπαιδευτικό σεμινάριο του Δικτύου με θέμα τη «Πρακτικές Ένταξης Μεταναστών στην Κοινωνία και την Οικονομία».
Στο σεμινάριο παρόντες ήταν αντιπρόσωποι δημόσιων και ιδιωτικών φορέων, τοπικών αρχών και ακαδημαϊκών ιδρυμάτων, οι οποίοι ασχολούνται με θέματα μετανάστευσης και ένταξης.
Κατά τη διάρκεια του σεμιναρίου, έγιναν οι πιο κάτω παρουσιάσεις:
- Κοινωνική Επιχειρηματικότητα και Ένταξη
- Εμπειρίες από την εκπαιδευτική επίσκεψη στην Ύπατη Αρμοστεία για τη Μετανάστευση και το Διαπολιτισμικό Διάλογο της Πορτογαλίας
- Πρακτικές Ένταξης στον Ευρωπαϊκό Χώρο, με βάση τις Κοινές Βασικές Αρχές πάνω στην Ενσωμάτωση της Ε.Ε.
Το Μεσογειακό Δίκτυο Μετανάστευσης και ο συντονιστικός του φορέας, το ερευνητικό κέντρο CARDET, διοργάνωσαν στις 8 Μαΐου 2012, στο Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας, εκπαιδευτικό σεμινάριο με θέμα τη «Διαχείριση της διαφορετικότητας και το νομικό πλαίσιο της μετανάστευσης». Στο σεμινάριο παρόντες ήταν τριάντα αντιπρόσωποι δημόσιων και ιδιωτικών φορέων, συμπεριλαμβανομένου του Παιδαγωγικού Ινστιτούτου, της Αστυνομίας Κύπρου, του Επίτροπου Διοικήσεως και Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων, του Υπουργείου Εσωτερικών, τοπικών αρχών, ακαδημαϊκών ιδρυμάτων και οργανώσεων της Κοινωνίας των Πολιτών.
Το διεθνές ερευνητικό κέντρο CARDETκαι η εταιρία συμβούλων INNOVADE LI, συντονιστικοί φορείς του Μεσογειακού Δικτύου Μετανάστευσης, σας προσκαλούν στο Σεμινάριο που διοργανώνουν με θέμα «Διαχείριση Διαφορετικότητας και το Νομικό Πλαίσιο της Μετανάστευσης: Προκλήσεις για Δημόσιους και Ιδιωτικούς Οργανισμούς». Το σεμινάριο θα πραγματοποιηθεί την Τρίτη 8 Μαΐου, 2012, από τις 9:30 π.μ. μέχρι τις 13:30 μ.μ., στο Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας (Αίθουσα Συνεδριάσεων, Main Building, 2ος Όροφος).
Γενικός σκοπός του σεμιναρίου είναι η ενημέρωση των ενδιαφερόμενων φορέων σχετικά με τη λειτουργία του Μεσογειακού Δικτύου Μετανάστευσης, η επιμόρφωσή τους σε θέματα που αφορούν στη διαχείριση της διαφορετικότητας σε κοινωνικό επίπεδο, και η παρουσίαση του νομικού πλαισίου που διέπει τη μετανάστευση στην Κύπρο.
Στο σεμινάριο καλούνται να λάβουν μέρος αντιπρόσωποι δημόσιων και ιδιωτικών φορέων που ασχολούνται με θέματα σχετικά με τη μετανάστευση και την ένταξη. Το σεμινάριο θα προσφερθεί στα ελληνικά.

The Mediterranean Migration Network was officially launched during a two-day kick-off meeting at the University of Nicosia on March 1-2, 2012. The meeting was organized by the MMN coordinator, the research and development centre, CARDET.
Present at the meeting were the Minister of Interior, Mr. Neoclis Sylikiotis, Dr. Michalis Attalides, and representatives from public and private organizations from Cyprus and Europe. Among the organizations represented, were the International Organization for Migration(IOM), the Migration Policy Group (MPG) based in Brussels, Oxfam Italia, the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers from the Netherlands, High Commission for Immigration and Intercultural Dialogue (ACIDI) from Portugal, the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance, the Civil Registry and Migration Department, other relevant public services, NGOs, and Union representatives.
On February 8, 2012, the Mediterranean Migration Network (MMN) held its first focus group workshop with Cypriot public and private stakeholders working in the fields of migration and integration. The workshop took place at the offices of the MMN coordinator, CARDET. The workshop was attended by representatives from CARDET, Innovade, the Ministry of Interior, the Department of Solidarity Funds, the University of Nicosia, the Open University of Cyprus and KISA - Action for Equality, Support, Antiracism. The purpose of the workshop was to identify the needs of the participating stakeholders, and their expectations from their potential involvement in the MMN. Furthermore, the workshop was an opportunity for the coordinator to receive feedback and suggestions on the development of the MMN online platform. Relevant activities will also be organized through web-conferencing with other European and Mediterranean stakeholders. CARDET will draft an informal report, based on which the work plan of the MMN will be developed and finalized at the official kick-off meeting of the MMN(Nicosia, Cyprus, 1-2 March).
The international research centre CARDET and the consultancy firm INNOVADE, have undertaken the role to establish and coordinate the Mediterranean Migration Network (MMN), in the context of the Action “Establishment of multilateral networks with Mediterranean countries” (Action 7, European Integration Fund for Third Country Nationals, Annual Programme 2010).
The network’s aim is to promote collaboration and exchange of ideas and practices among public and private stakeholders that are active in the fields of migration and integration.

CARDET and its partners have recently published an information toolkit on “Raising Awareness on Development Cooperation” in the context of the aforementioned EuropeAid project. The information toolkit has two main objectives. Firstly, by presenting the successful outcomes of the project, it aims to raise awareness on development cooperation and endorse the build-up of such partnerships among relevant stakeholders for further expansion of development cooperation. Secondly, the information toolkit aims to provide a theoretical framework, basic guidelines, and case studies for the integration of the proposed curriculum in the regular activities of NGOs and universities.
